Fixtures & Results
The semi final of the district cup was played in dreadful conditions at The Beacon after the heavens opened at the end of the school day. Despite the rain the boys were enthusiastic and started well. Tom scored from a cheeky flick at the front post after Brooklyn's corner. Lingfield grew into the game and came close on a number of occasions but could not find a way past the impressive Cameron in goal. At half time it was 1-0 to The Beacon. In the second half the boys really started to attack over the top of the Lingfield defence and Joe converted two chances excellently to extend the lead to 3-0. The boys controlled the last 10 minutes to secure the win and The Beacon progressed to the district cup final which will be played on Thursday 21st April at Reigate school.
Player(s) of the match - Goncalo and Dylan for their performances in central midfield. Both year 8's who proved they can definitely mix it with the year 9's.
The year 9 boys were back in action two days in a row with a league match vs Reigate. The boys got off to a slow start and after an un-characteristically sloppy first half, went in 1-0 down. The second half was the polar opposite and the boys crisp passing and fine movement unlocked the Reigate defence time and time again. It finished 4-1 thanks to goals from Harry, Joe and another 2 from Finn. MOM was Finn for a superb attacking performance in the 2nd half.
Beacon 0 - 2 Ashcombe
The Beacon crashed out the Surrey Cup despite a rousing second half performance against a very good Ashcombe side. The Beacon went 2-0 down early on and despite throwing everything at the Ashcombe goal could not get back on terms. Their keeper made one excellent save from Joe and Tom shaved the bar with a header. MOM was Charlie E for his dominant display in centre midfield. He did not deserve to be on the losing team.
Year 9 Football - vs Oxted
Beacon 2 - 1 Oxted
The year 9 team travelled to Oxted for their second game of the season. It was a closely fought game against a very well organised Oxted side. Both teams took time to adjust to the speed of the surface and The Beacon struggled to get control of the game. Just before half time Finn put Beacon 1-0 up with a superb volley from distance that sneaked into the corner. The Beacon played much better in the second half and had lots of chances to extend their lead. Eventually Joe seized onto a through ball and was clear on goal when he was hacked down by the Oxted centre back. The referee pointed straight to the spot. Finn stepped up and rolled in calmly into the bottom corner, sending the keep the other way. Oxted scored late on, but it was too little too late and The Beacon held on for a 2-1 win.
Man of the Match went to Mo for his excellent defensive display in central midfield. Special mention to Finn for his two goals, and Joe for his work-rate all game as the lone striker.
Year 9 football vs Merstham
The year 9 football side played their first fixture of the season, and first since year 7 due to COVID, against Merstham Park at home on Tuesday night. The Beacon ran away with it and ended up as 6-0 victors. The Beacon passed the ball excellently, used the width and pressed Merstham without the ball throughout the match. It was an all round solid performance and a great starting point for the season. Goals on the night were scored by Finn, Joe and Cameron. Man of the match for his performance on the right wing went to Charlie.
