Ofsted 2026

On 16 and 17 June 2026, the school was pleased to welcome a team from Ofsted for a full inspection, and we are now able to share with families the outcome of that visit. We are grateful that the inspection team were able to see the significant progress that the school has made since the last inspection back in 2023.

Under the new framework, schools are assessed against a series of individual areas rather than a single overall grade. The Beacon School met the ‘expected standard’, the level at which schools are judged to be performing well across achievement, curriculum and teaching, inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development and wellbeing.

Pupil behaviour at the school was also praised by Ofsted, with inspectors saying:

“Behaviour has improved significantly since the previous inspection. Leaders have been tenacious in their work to establish the school's values in a meaningful way. Pupils understand the importance of kindness and respect. Staff enhance this through consistently high expectations. As a result, pupils typically behave well.”

In the report, inspectors also highlighted other specific strengths:

• Rapid Improvement: School leaders have worked tenaciously since the last inspection to drive rapid improvements across key areas, collaborating closely with colleagues within the GLF Schools Multi-Academy Trust to establish clear priorities.
• Welcoming Culture: Staff maintain high expectations, and warm, respectful relationships exist between teachers and pupils, creating a calm, orderly, and purposeful learning environment.
• Core Subject Strength: Academic achievement is strongest in English and mathematics, where pupils consistently develop detailed skills and knowledge, ensuring they are well-prepared for their next steps.
• Caring Pastoral Support: The school prioritises pupil mental health and offers excellent pastoral support, which enables pupils to feel well supported and to have trusted adults they can discuss any worries with.
• Enriching Opportunities Beyond the Classroom: Leaders have designed an extensive extracurricular curriculum featuring a wide range of clubs, sports, and highly engaging trips, including a trip to NASA. These activities help build leadership, resilience, and mature attitudes toward diversity.
• Effective Careers Guidance: The school runs a well-designed careers programme that starts early and is enhanced by a popular annual careers fair, giving pupils the precise guidance they need to plan their futures.
• Robust Safeguarding Standards: The school fully meets all safeguarding standards, with safeguarding seen as a shared responsibility, as a result, pupils feel safe and are kept safe.

Along with their findings on academic outcomes, the school’s caring and calm atmosphere was particularly highlighted by inspectors who said:

“Pupils are confident and happy at this caring school. Staff encourage them to be individuals. Teachers forge warm and meaningful relationships with pupils. This helps staff to know pupils well. These positive relationships are evident throughout the school, as seen in warm greetings and happy conversations between pupils, staff and leaders. Pupils understand the importance of community. They demonstrate this through the polite and courteous behaviour they show each other. As a result, a sense of calm permeates the school.”

However, we are by no means complacent, and we are committed to ensuring that the school will continue to be ambitious and work relentlessly so that it truly lives up to the limitless potential of its students.

Staff, students and families all share our high expectations, and that particularly shines through this report.  As a school, we combine academic focus, a caring culture and a supportive atmosphere, and we are very pleased to see the Ofsted inspectors putting this at the core of their comments and findings.”
