The Beacon School (Year 9)
Fixtures & Results
Year 9 girls travelled to Warlingham off the back of their district success, hoping to try and maintain their winning streak. However, with a depleted team due to sickness and injuries this was going to be a tough task.
The girls started well however, Warlingham had the better start and maintained their lead for the full 32mintues. The girls performed well with a lot of players playing out of position they maintained a positive team spirit.
Y9 Netball 4th Feb District Tournament at RAAS.
After a tough loss last week the girls travelled back to RAAS for the district tournament.
First round opponents were RAAS B. The girls came out with a lot of fight wanting to prove that last weeks game was just a blip. With great defensive work from Georgia and Lizze the first game was a 1 all draw.
The girls took this confidence into the second round were they were up against Oxted B. The girls set the pace in the 2nd game with Erin and Izzy making their mark scoring 6 between them to win the game 6-1.
The next game was against Woldingham B who took an early 1-0 lead. However, great team work and communication from both Daisy’s and Maddie in the middle lead to many goal opportunities for Erin and Lucy. The girls took the game in the end 3-1.
Full of confidence and belief the girls faced old rivals Oakwood in the final round. The girls had previously lost to Oakwood before Christmas in a league game. Oakwood came out fast and took an early 3-0 lead. However, great team work from Lucy and Izzy in the goal D meant the Beacon scored one back going into half time. Great support from the side lines and defending from Georgia and Lizze resulted in Beacon controlling the second half and coming from behind to win the final match 5-3.
It was a nervous wait as the points were counted and goal difference was calculated.
The results were in and the girls had taken the win!
Congratulations to all girls that took part!
Y9 Netball 28th Jan v RAAS.
It was the first match for the girls after the Christmas break and they got off to a shakey start losing the first quarter. However, the girls fought back with excellent link up play in the middle between Daisy, Erin and Maddy. Although, this was short lived as RAAS proved to be the stronger team towards the end. Final score 15 – 4 to RAAS.
Year 9 v Oakwood
Year 9 had their first match of the season on Tuesday at home against Oakwood. The girls got off to a great start with some excellent goals from Erin and Izzy. However, Oakwood fought back to take the lead in the first quarter 3-2. Beacon took their foot off the gas in the 2nd quarter, Oakwood took advantage of this and extended their lead to 6 goals to 2 going into the 2nd break. As the 3rd quarter started the girls rallied and great link up play from Daisy in the middle gave Beacon the opportunity to put themselves back in the game. The girls managed to close the gap on Oakwood to only two goals going in to the 4th quarter. The girls fought hard in the last quarter but a disallowed last second goal resulted in the girls losing the match 8 goals to 9.
Well played to all girls and player of the match Daisy.
