Music
The fundamental intent of our curriculum is:
To ensure competency in literacy, numeracy and oracy
To give students the disciplinary knowledge in a broad range of subjects to allow them to enter their future pathway of their choice
To equip the students with the knowledge and skills relevant to life in the 21st century
To nurture students to become curious, resilient, empathetic, reflective and who aim for excellence
Subject Curriculum Intent:
- Music at The Beacon School isn’t just about what we do – it’s about who we are and how it shapes our identity, both as an individual and within a community. Music offers students the opportunity to explore, process and challenge their musical identity and its place in the world. This is underpinned by our whole-school core values of excellence and respect.
- Whether it be through performance, composition or listening, music is designed to be shared and to influence our moral compass.
- We embrace a hybrid approach to music as sound – from the elegance of the great composers, to the diversity of different musical cultures and traditions to our own, as well as the contribution technology brings to how we explore and engage with Music over time.
