Girls uniform: We just want to confirm that last summer we changed the uniform policy to allow girls to wear black socks with their skirts in the summer term. I know that a number of families have not picked up on this change so hopefully this helps clarify the situation.

Due to a major event taking place at the school this afternoon, Picquets Way and the surrounding roads are likely to be significantly busier than normal. Where possible, please make alternative arrangements for picking your son/daughter up from school at the end of the day.

The Geography Department have dodged the rain this week and taken 120 Geographers to sunny Folkestone to collect primary data for their GCSE coastal studies. Students have learnt to beach profile, analyse sediment, complete EQIs and field sketch.👍 https://t.co/P2DntVGCTw

Choosing The Beacon Sixth Form

As a truly comprehensive Sixth Form that caters for students of all backgrounds and all abilities, we invite you to join us and complete your final and best years of education at The Beacon School.  The Sixth Form prides itself on its warmth, its openness and its ability help shape the futures of all that pass through it.  Students that leave The Beacon School Sixth Form are confident, well qualified young people with great futures ahead of them.

We have an exceptional breadth and depth of subjects for students to choose from here at The Beacon. Subjects are offered across 5 option blocks with key subjects appearing in multiple ones which are built around student choice.  As a comprehensive school, we offer two main pathways; Level 3 and Level 2.

  • Level 3 Pathway is the route that most of our Sixth Form students follow and is available to those who meet our Sixth Form entry criteria
  • We also offer a Level 2 Pathway for those students who do not quite meet the criteria for the traditional Level 3 Pathway but who may well want to continue with Sixth Form studies

What defines our Sixth Form is the caring and supportive pastoral team that will help support, guide and steer students in the direction that they want to go.  Here at The Beacon, we want our students to be well-rounded individuals and as such we provide more than just qualifications.

New this year, which we will continue next year is our enrichment programme. Wednesday afternoons are set aside for students to participate in a range of sporting activities, voluntary, community and charity work as well as additional work experience. Our aim is for our students to leave us at the end of Year 13 ‘work ready’ and to make a difference to the world in which they live.

Choosing the correct Sixth Form is critical and as such, if any potential student or parent is interested in finding out more, or would like to discus your options then please contact myself or one of my team and we will be happy to help.

Mr Gary Newton, Director of Sixth Form
