The Beacon School (Year 7)
Fixtures & Results
Year 7 Football
The Beacon 0-1 Oxted
The Beacon came away with a huge amount of positives after an excellent performance against an extremely strong Oxted side. The game was tied at 0-0 until just after half time when The Beacon switched off defending a corner and the Oxted player volleyed home superbly at the back post. The boys kept fighting and were unlucky not to get an equaliser when Joe beat three defenders and lobbed the keeper but unfortunately was denied by the woodwork. The last few minutes were chaotic as The Beacon piled on the pressure but could not find the equaliser their effort and performance deserved. Man of the Match was Sonny for his hold up play and work rate as the lone striker.

Football year 7
RAAS 1 - 2 The Beacon
The Year 7 boys football team registered their first win of the year at RAAS and it was thoroughly deserved. The boys have been getting stronger week on week and got the result their hard work deserved. The two Beacon goals came either side of half-time; firstly Jake rifling a shot into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area, then Joe turned in a great cross from Sonny to make it two. At 2-0 up The Beacon were comfortable and playing some lovely football, in particular passing the ball out from goalkeeper James into centre back Thiago to launch attacks. A lapse in concentration let RAAS back into the game but the boys saw the game out well and controlled the closing stages. Excellent performance and result which puts The Beacon into the semi-final of the district cup. Man of the Match was Jake for his calmness on the ball and superb goal.
On Monday the year 7 girls football team travelled to Greenshaw to meet in the double header for both league and cup. The game started positively and the Beacon took an early lead with 2 composed goals from Honey. The game then went quite with even possession out field and the ball yo-yo’ing in both halves. Greenshaw managed to score within seconds on the half time whistle. Half-time 2-1.
Greenshaw must have had a motivational half time team talk as they came out fighting and in the early minutes equalised 2-2. Beacon kept their cool and calmly played the ball up the field to score another great goal by Honey - HATRICK. Greenshaw responded and in minutes were drawing once again 3-3. In desperate moments Beacon kept the ball out of their half and finally Lola after a great through ball from Gracie scored the finisher to give Beacon the win !
Warwick away 12/12/18
The Beacon produced their best performance of the season so far with a 1-1 draw away against a strong Warwick side. Beacon were aggressive and on the front foot for the majority of the match and passed the ball out well from the back. Despite falling a goal behind just after half-time against the run of play, the boys rallied and pulled one back. Despite chances to win it late on the game finished as a draw. Special mentions to Thiago, Luca and goal scorer Sonny, but man of the match went to centre midfield Joe for his work rate and calmness on the ball.

Year 7 Girls Football
Beacon 2 vs St Philomenas 3
The Year 7 girls played a fantastic game away at St Philomenas. They worked extremely hard and played some really attractive football. We hit the bar and the post but could not overturn the 3-2 score line. Very proud of the effort and hard work the girls demonstrated in their performance.
Woman of the match- Lauren
The Year 7 team travelled to Rutlish in the 1st round of the Surrey Cup. After a competitive first half the boy's found themselves 1-0 down due to a penalty for the home side. After half time Rutlish showed their class and pulled away from The Beacon School eventually running out 4-0 winners. The boy's effort was brilliant throughout and were simply beaten by the better team on the day. Archie stood out for the Beacon with his positive forward runs, picking up the man of the match.

They went in at half time 2 nil up after a scrappy goal from a corner. The Beacon fought well till the final whistle eventually going down 3-0. Special mentions to Thiago and Mason for their work rate and desire.
Year 7 Girls Football Match
Beacon vs Chertsey High School
The Beacon Year 7s were out competing again this week, this time with the Year 7 girls football team. We were away at Chertsey High School and the girls were very excited. The opposition started strongly with a quick goal in the first 2 minutes. We found ourselves 1-0 down so quickly, but the Beacon girls did not quit. A quick sprint dribble and finish from Honey brought the game level. Lacey then contributed with 2 fantastic finishes from some good passing, and Honey finished the game off with another goal off the post towards the end.
A fantastic all round performance and what a start to the season. Come on Beacon!!
Woman of the match: Honey
It was Year 7's first fixture of the year vs De Stafford played over at our home pitch at Priest Hill. It was an exciting match with loads of end to end action with both goalkeepers pulling off outstanding saves.
De Stafford took the lead with a scrappy goal after a ball into the box that The Beacon failed to clear. The Beacon were rewarded for their positive play with an equalizer shortly after, when Thiago clipped in a free-kick that was swept home by Joseph. The final five minutes of the game saw chances for both teams but the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
A fair result for both sides and a promising first performance for the Year 7 football team.
