ABOUT US
The Beacon School is a thriving 11-18 mixed academy with over 1100 students. The school is a caring, happy, vibrant learning community in which every student is valued and enabled to achieve their highest academic and personal potential. At The Beacon, learning is enjoyed and success is recognised and generously celebrated. We are extremely proud of what we are achieving. In 2013, we received our best ever GCSE and A-level results following a highly successful Ofsted inspection where the school was judged as 'good' in all aspects of its work. The school is both forward thinking and ambitious; after all, our school days provide the foundations on which our future lives are built and we therefore want to provide every child with the very best opportunity for success. As well as providing a strong academic curriculum, the school aims to develop well-rounded, confident individuals, who are able to contribute to and take a full and active role in society. The school House System ensures a sense of pride, encourages community spirit and enables healthy competition.

Our unique enrichment programme provides a wealth of learning and personal development opportunities beyond the classroom, inspiring our students and developing their talents. We are leading the way with our innovative curriculum. There is a strong emphasis on catering for each individual and our academic curriculum is tailored to suit each child's needs and interests. The school has real strength in the core curriculum of English, Mathematics and Science, offers a strong English Baccalaureate route with a focus on the Humanities, Languages and Computer  Science. To complement this we also have real strength and a depth of expertise in the Media Arts, for which we hold Specialist School Status. In addition, we ensure that there is high quality provision for our potential high achievers, including an express stream and a very successful transition group for those that need additional support.

We set and uphold the highest standards of appearance and behaviour within an ethos of mutual respect, understanding and tolerance. Visitors often comment on the calm, purposeful and happy atmosphere around the school and the pride we take in our environment.

At The Beacon the development of leadership skills is an important focus. The students are guided to take leadership responsibilities and student voice is integral to the school. We have a thriving team of school officials, Heads of House and student mentors who undertake fantastic work and are a real credit to their school.

One of the school's deeply held beliefs is that work in partnership and good communication is vital to the continued success of the school. Of particular importance to us is developing strong supportive links with parents/carers. Our Parents' Focus Group, parents' evenings, curriculum evenings, parents' workshops and growing Parents' Association show the value we place on this two way process.

The school takes a leading role in the development of other partnerships including the North Downs Schools Partnership, which aims to provide opportunites for local children across all phases of education. In addition, The Beacon is part of a strong 11-19 partnership with Glyn, Rosebery, Blenheim and Epsom and Ewell and has forged links with Epsom College, the local independent school. These partnership projects provide a wealth of opportunities for our students and professional development opportunities for our highly dedicated team of staff. The school is also a member of PIXL (Partners in Excellence) group of schools, which enables us to share outstanding practice and continue to raise standards.

I hope this welcome summary has given you a flavour of our school. Thank you for viewing our website. If you are the parent of a child at our school thank you for sending your child to The Beacon. If you are considering entrusting your child to us, or, aspire to become part of our professional and expert team of staff, please come and visit us, meet our children and talk to me about my vision, our values and futures goals.
