Examination Results

EXAMINATION RESULTS

Information about The Beacon School on the DfE school performance tables website.

2016/17 EXAMINATION RESULTS

Students at The Beacon School enjoyed many success in their GCSEs in 2017.  With more challenging examinations in core subjects, they performed really well, with two thirds of the results in English and Maths securing a pass, many at the very top end of the new numerical system.  At this end, the school achieved 14 grade 9s and 30 grade 8s.  The English Literature results held up from last year, even with much more demanding requirements. There were 100% pass rates in PE and Drama, and half of the grades in RS and Textiles were A*/As.  Across the year group and across most subjects, progress from student starting points was generally very positive.

Russell Bennett, Principal, said, ‘In these changing times, the results this year have been very well-received.  Our students worked so well with the new examination demands and clearly excelled in many areas of the curriculum.  It is a real achievement to be awarded the very top scores as many have this year.  The whole staff and I are very proud of our young people. For those staying on to the Sixth Form here, we are looking forward to building on these successes next term. ‘

English and Mathematics

Results in English and Mathematics were both in line with the national average. 72% of students achieved grades 9-4 in English and 58% in Mathematics. The percentage of pupils achieving grades 9-4 in both English and Mathematics in 2017 was 52%.

Science

63% of students achieved A*-C grades in GCSE Science qualifications. This is above the national average of 58%.

English Baccalaureate

19% of students achieved the combination of EBACC subjects (English, Mathematics, two sciences, a modern foreign language and History or Geography) and achieved a C or above in all Ebacc subjects.

KS4 Progress 8 & Attainment 8

The average progress and attainment 8 scores for Year 11 students in 2016/17 was -0.29 and 41.72 respectively.
