Excellent to launch our Research Groups last night . Mr Lindsay-Charlton and Mrs Rennie made us ‘think hard’ in the ‘challenge’ session. Now we have to build these techniques into our teaching habits

Top grades success for our Sixth Form students

The Beacon Sixth Form students have achieved the best A Level results the school has seen for many years.  Collectively, they made significant increases in the numbers of top grades, with four students achieving the highest A* Grade and with 17% of exams being awarded A*/A grades. This means that several of our students can access the top universities in the country. For example, Daisy will go on to read medicine at Manchester University and three students will read Maths at Russell group universities.

39% of grades were within the A*- B range, another increase in our upward trend.  A*-C was 63%, another strong performance.  At BTEC level, there was a continued 100% pass rate, with greater numbers of Distinctions and Merits than in previous years.

There were particular student successes:

  • A* grades awarded to Georgia and Louise in Mathematics, Chloe in English Literature and Elizabeth in Art
  • A*AA for Georgia who is going to Bath University to read Mathematics and statistics
  • AAA for Leah who is going to Bath University to read Bio-Chemistry
  • AAA for Daisy who is going to Manchester University to read Medicine
  • AAB for Jacob who is studying Mathematics at Exeter University
  • A*AB for Louise who is going to Lancaster University to read Mathematics
  • A*BB for Chloe who is going to Kent University to read History
  • ABB for Jack who is going to Sussex University to read Mathematics
  • 1 x Distinction* for Ellie in BTEC Sport
  • 2 x Distinctions for Rafa and Amie for BTEC Sport

Mrs Naomi Albrecht, Director of Sixth Form, said, “Once again, the students were determined to succeed and achieve their very best.  They not only secured their next steps in their education but also gave the Sixth Form its best results.  I am so proud of them all!

Mr Keith Batchelor, Headteacher, added,

“We are delighted by the huge success for our students that these grades represent. After a number of years at The Beacon School it is great to see our students taking their next steps out to university, apprenticeships and employment. We are especially pleased with the jump in top grades, which has opened up highly competitive places at elite universities to study Medicine, Maths and BioChemistry for a number of our students. We are delighted to see our students do so well and go on to exciting futures.”
