Girls uniform: We just want to confirm that last summer we changed the uniform policy to allow girls to wear black socks with their skirts in the summer term. I know that a number of families have not picked up on this change so hopefully this helps clarify the situation.

Due to a major event taking place at the school this afternoon, Picquets Way and the surrounding roads are likely to be significantly busier than normal. Where possible, please make alternative arrangements for picking your son/daughter up from school at the end of the day.

The Beacon go marching into the 3rd Round!

The Beacon year 8 football team travelled away to Therfield School to play the second round of the County Cup. The game had particular significance as this was against Mr Batchelor’s,  Ms Marrill and Mrs Rennie’s old school!

Both teams seemed a little on edge to start with as both looked for long balls into the strikers. It wasn’t long before The Beacon settled and started their passing game which has served them very well all season. Thompson and Tully went on mazy runs to show that we had another attacking dynamic to our play but both shots were saved by the Therfield goalkeeper. After the 20 minute mark, McNiff had a long range shot that deflected into the bottom corner. The Beacon took this well deserved 1-0 lead into half time.

The second half Therfield started strongly as they searched for an equaliser. The Beacon did well to nullify any attacks and Brill (in goal) kept our boys calm as he played Ederson style passes out the back to keep our team calm and start our attacks. He did not have many saves to make but was instrumental in setting the tone of our performance. The Beacon rode the mini storm of Therfield pressure, then started to put pressure on Therfield to make the lead more secure. The Therfield goalkeeper made superb saves from Smith, Tully, Thompson and Davies and it was beginning to look like a nervous ending. That was until a defensive clearance was made to Reader-Wells who saw the keeper off his line and struck the ball into the top corner. A great goal to put the game beyond Therfield.

The final score: Therfield 0-2 The Beacon

MOM: Brill

Thank you to Therfield for hosting and their excellent performance. Thank you also to The Beacon parents for their support.

Mr Gardner
