The Beacon School (Year 9) - vs - Reigate School
Fixtures & Results
The Year 9 boy’s football team played their second game of the week on September 18th and for the first time this season played on home soil. They faced Reigate School in the league, a team they beat comfortably last year. With injuries and illnesses still plaguing the squad, this would be a difficult game and this proved to be the case. The first half was a well contested battle with opportunities presenting themselves to both teams but it was Beacon that took advantage of some neat passing allowing Tom to score the opener, his seventh goal in three games. The rest of the half proved uneventful. A pep talk at half time, reminding the boys how well they played earlier in the week seemed to be what the boys needed. The second half was much more productive and Beacon stated going through the gears and creating space and opportunities that didn’t exist in the first half. A goal from Alfie came at exactly the right time and it took the wind out of Reigate sails. As Reigate started to press further up the pitch looking for their own goal, Beacon took advantage and a counter attack saw Sonnie in a one on one opportunity with the keeper. Sonnie was deliberately taken out by the keeper and a penalty was awarded. Sonnie steps up….Goal! The dying minutes saw one last counter attack and a well crossed ball from eventual man of the match player, Sam W. saw Louie on the receiving end and toe poking a goal at the far post. 3 games, 3 wins. 17 goals scores, 0 conceded. What a start to the season.
