Girls uniform: We just want to confirm that last summer we changed the uniform policy to allow girls to wear black socks with their skirts in the summer term. I know that a number of families have not picked up on this change so hopefully this helps clarify the situation.

Due to a major event taking place at the school this afternoon, Picquets Way and the surrounding roads are likely to be significantly busier than normal. Where possible, please make alternative arrangements for picking your son/daughter up from school at the end of the day.

The Geography Department have dodged the rain this week and taken 120 Geographers to sunny Folkestone to collect primary data for their GCSE coastal studies. Students have learnt to beach profile, analyse sediment, complete EQIs and field sketch.👍 https://t.co/P2DntVGCTw

House Points

The Beacon School House System aims to achieve and encourage the following principles:

To further develop the students spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding and awareness

  • To build a community within each House
  • To build healthy competition and a sense of pride in the House
  • To provide opportunities for students to learn from other year groups and their experiences
  • To provide role models for the younger students
  • To develop leadership opportunities throughout the school

The House names were voted for by the students, parents, carers, teachers and governing body, from groups that represented people or important technological advances that have’ led the way’ in our world history and today’s society.  The final House names selected were:

Names of Space Shuttles that have ‘led the way’ to other planets.

ATLANTIS HOUSE - Head of House - Mr Preen

DISCOVERY HOUSE - Head of House - Mr Diffley

ENDEAVOUR HOUSE - Head of House - Miss Wybrow

EXPLORER HOUSE - Head of House - Miss Gell-Nogueira

The House system gives all of our students the opportunity to participate in House celebration assemblies, competitions and of course, win valuable points for their Houses. House vivo points are awarded through a range of different ways, for example through good attendance, positive behaviour, participation in extra-curricular activities, competitions and representation in sports teams and tournaments or school events.

If you require any further information about the House system please contact Miss S Day - House System Co-ordinator
