Frequently Asked Questions (Parents/Carers)

Who should I speak to if I have difficulty completing The Beacon School's online forms?

You can contact any member of staff in the Front Office by phone or in person - they will be happy to resolve any issues you may have.

How will I know the date my child is coming into The Beacon School for his/her transition day?

Our Transition Days are on Tuesday 2nd July and Wednesday 3rd July.  Your child will be expected to attend on one of these days with students from their primary school.  We will contact you via email to inform you of the date your child is due to attend.  We also provide you with further details of the day nearer the time.

When is the Transition Evening for families?

You will be required to attend a Transition Evening with us on either Tuesday 2nd July or Wednesday 3rd July at 6.30pm.  We will contact you in due course to let you know the date we would like you to attend.

What happens at the Transition Evening?

This year, we have changed our format for the Transition Evening.  We will begin with a talk from the Headteacher, Mr Batchelor, and the Head of Lower School, Mrs Sheehan.  The talk will offer an introduction to secondary school life by providing  details regarding key members of staff, our processes and expectations.  You will receive a Welcome Pack with key information we think you will find useful during the transition process.  You will also hear from Mrs Paula Ghinn, founder of the Beacon Friends' Association, regarding the excellent work carried out by the BFA with ways you can get involved and become an active member of our community.  Following the talk, there will be an opportunity for you to have some light refreshments on the piazza - weather allowing - and speak to members of staff as well as members of the BFA.

Should I bring my child to the Transition Evening?

Yes! The evening is designed to be informative for the whole family.

What time does the Transition Day begin?

Aim to arrive at 8.45am, so students can register and promptly begin the day at 9am.
