Year 7 Induction
We are committed to ensuring the transition from primary to secondary school is as supportive as possible. The first step in this process involves our Transition Team visiting primary schools during the Summer Term. During these visits, we discuss life at The Beacon School with students and answer any questions they may have. Furthermore, we also discuss individual students with Year 6 teachers to ensure we have as much information as possible to aid a successful, happy transition. The following events take place during the Summer Term.
The Induction Day is of paramount importance as it provides the opportunity for students to have a ‘taster’ of life at The Beacon School prior to arrival in September.
Parents’ and Students’ Induction Evening
This event is designed for parents/carers and students to familiarise themselves with procedures at The Beacon School. During the evening there is:
- A speech from the Principal
- An opportunity to meet with your child’s Form Tutor
- Information about the House System, School Meals, Parentpay, Homework, Rewards, the Enrichment Programme, School Uniform and Learning to Play a Musical Instrument.
Parents’ and Students’ Consultation Evening with members of the Senior Leadership Team
The final stage in the Induction process is the Consultation Evening where parents/carers and students meet with members of the Senior Leadership Team. This is an excellent opportunity to begin forging our partnership with parents to ensure students are fully supported and successful at school. We also go through key information, including the Home/School Agreement and answer any further questions on the Induction process. Parents/carers and students then visit the School Shop in order to purchase the school uniform and this concludes our Induction Programme.
Due to the withdrawal of funding from the Department for Educaiton for Summer Schools we are, unfortunately, no longer able to offer this event.
Additional Transition Support
The Beacon School offers more personalised Transition Programmes for those children who may find the move from Primary School to Secondary School more challenging.
