The beacon sixth form a level offer 2015 - 2017

A levels are changing.  For students beginning their A level courses in September 2015, they will choose only three subjects and study them over the course of two years and sit a final exam at the end of Year 13.  All courses require students to have at least a grade B at GCSE in the subject they are taking for A Level.  More details of this can be found in the curriculum guide.

For students wishing to take a BTEC course Level 3, they are required to have achieved at least a merit in their Level 2 course in that subject. The courses we are offering for Level 3 are Media, Applied Science (Forensics), Business Studies and P.E.

We also have another route for students who wish to re-sit their English and Maths GCSE and remain in full time education; Level 2 BTECs.  Students opting for this route are required to take two Level 2 BTECs in Year 12 which will serve as a bridge year into Year 13 where they will progress to Level 3 BTECs in the same subjects. This means that they will be in Sixth Form for three years. The subjects offered at this level are Business Studies, Applied Science (Forensics), Media and P.E.  We are also hoping to offer new subjects such as Health and Social Care, Travel and Tourism, Retail and Business Administration (details to follow once these courses have been confirmed).

As part of our Enrichment Programme, students will have the choice of studying A.S. level subject such as Sports Leader, Critical Thinking or Extended Project Qualification (E.P.Q.).  These courses are equivalent to an A.S. qualification and highly valued by Universities and Employers.
