The Beacon School Library

Our school Library is an attractive, light and spacious well-resourced area offering a wide range of information. We hold a comprehensive stock of over 18,000 books together with a network of 23 computers.
The fiction is diverse, up to date and is hand picked for all Key Stages and we have suggested reading lists to help students choose material that interests them. The Library subscribes to a number of newspapers and magazines.
Lunch and break in the library are always busy times. In addition to those getting ahead with their homework we provide organised activities: The opening times are Monday – Friday 8am - 4.30pm

New Students Y6-Y7 - WIN A KINDLE

The Library has launched this year’s Summer Reading Challenge for pupils currently in Year 6 and joining The Beacon in September.  The fun and exciting tasks will encourage students to continue reading over the summer holidays and include, taking a photo of someone reading in an unusual location, a creative writing challenge and completing a book review.

Completed booklets must be handed in on the first day of term (Tuesday 6th September 2016) and every pupil will receive Vivos and a certificate. Names will also be entered into a raffle to win a Kindle.

Students moving from Year 7 to Year 8 - WIN CINEMA TICKETS

All students in the current Year 7 have been fantastic readers this year, with many meeting their Accelerated Reader Target and taking out a record number of books from the school library.  In order to help students continue with their great reading progress over the long summer, a reading challenge booklet has been designed for them to have fun and encourage their reading.

Completed booklets and challenges should be handed in on Monday 12th September and every pupil will receive Vivos and a certificate. For those who have read 6 or more books and completed 6 challenges they will be entered into a raffle to win cinema tickets.

Enjoy your summer and have fun reading.
