The Beacon School is keen to forge links with the local business community and we appreciate the enrichment opportunities these links provide for our students.
We have strong links with Legal & General, based in Kingswood. The Company is committed to a Key Stage 4 mentoring programme and since its introduction 12 years ago, many students have benefitted by regularly meeting with their mentor at the Legal & General offices. This mentoring scheme often leads to work experience within the organisation.
The Beacon School holds a World of Work Day for Year 13, which involves Legal & General staff coming into school to offer their expertise. At this event, students experience a full interview process from preparation right through to a mock interview. Students learn how to present their achievements and maximise their potential
The ‘YES’ project, organised by Epsom based engineering company Atkins, provides a selected group of Year 8 students with an insight into a variety of STEM (Science, Technology and Maths ) related careers.
Atkins and many other companies, e.g. Ora Hair, Waitrose, GLive and PricewaterhouseCoopers also visit The Beacon School to talk to students regarding the world of work.
The many local businesses that provide work experience placements are immensely valuable to the school. They allow students to develop the transferable life skills which are so important when making their way in the world.
