School Strategy Board

As part of the GLF Schools multi academy trust, The Beacon is able to benefit from the support and opportunities that of trust membership.  Being part of a Trust allows us to work within a governance structure which is different from a traditional Governing Body model and from September 2017 our local governance body is now called a School Strategy Board.  This Board will continue to have parent representatives, elected in the same way as parent governors were previously, and representatives from the local community, together with our Headteacher, Mr Batchelor, and our School Business Leader, Mrs Lygo-Baker and representatives from the Trust’s central team.

The Beacon’s Schools Strategy Board (SSB) meets once per half term and provides the local governance function for the schools which fits within the overall governance structure of GLF Schools.

Further information about governance at GLF Schools can be found here:

Register of Business Interests for all Governors within GLF Schools
GLF Articles and Scheme of Delegation for LGB

The three core functions of governance are:

  1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  2. Holding leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management, including well-being, of staff
  3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

It is therefore important that our SSB comprises the right people with the right skills to make appropriate and informed decisions for a school, taking into account the views of children and students, staff, parents and the local community.

The members of The Beacon School Strategy Board are:

Gill Edwards - SSB Chair

Simon Brookhouse – SSB Vice Chair

Lisa Adams – Parent SSB Member

Wendy Sagar – Community SSB Member

Keith Batchelor – Headteacher SSB Member

Vanessa Lygo-Baker – School Business Leader

Liam Collins - GLF SSB Member and GLF Education Partner

Tom Wyatt – GLF SSB Member

Tessa Jones - Clerk
