Principal's Welcome

Welcome to The Beacon School’s website. I hope it will provide you with a clear and comprehensive insight into the work of the school.

We are an ambitious, outward-looking school. Our aim is simple: we believe that all of our students deserve the best possible education. This is underpinned by our clearly stated values –

We care, we aim high, we achieve together, we lead the way.

We are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment in which students can thrive, both academically and as young British citizens who contribute positively to society.

Above all, we aim to equip all students with the knowledge, skills and resilience they need to be happy, successful and fulfilled.

As Principal, I am resolute in my belief that students from all backgrounds and starting points should be supported and challenged to make the best progress they are capable of, to prepare them for the next stage of their education, employment or training. At The Beacon, we have an excellent and dedicated staff who work relentlessly to ensure that our high standards are maintained and built upon.

Our curriculum is innovative and broad, providing a range of courses tailored to students’ needs. We challenge students to work hard, stretch their thinking and achieve. Our unique enrichment programme offers a range of exciting learning opportunities beyond the classroom, inspiring our students and developing their talents.

Our House system is well-established and ensures a sense of belonging to the community, as well as some healthy competition! We have a team of School Officials, Heads of House and student mentors who contribute to the high quality pastoral care in the school.

The Beacon works collaboratively with many other local primary and secondary schools, to share good practice and raise standards. We are proud to hold the International Schools’ Award. We have a number of established exchange programmes, including a link with the outstanding Ganquan Foreign Language School in Shanghai.

I am proud to lead this school. I believe that we can transform the lives of young people. With over 20 years’ experience in education, it is my firm belief that setting and maintaining the highest expectations of our students is the key to success. Students who arrive on time, dress smartly, behave respectfully and take pride in their achievements are far more likely to be successful.

Working in partnership with parents is vital to achieving the best experience and outcomes for our students – we value your support and views. As a school, we will never be complacent; we will always be looking for ways in which we can improve.

I hope that the website will give you a sense of the culture of the school. If you would like to gain a deeper insight I encourage you to visit. Please contact school reception if you would like to see us in action.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Russell Bennett
Principal
